Parvathy Omanakuttan

After an eight year gap India created waves at the Miss World pageant. Parvathy Omanakuttan was crowned the first runner-up at the Miss World 2008 pageant in Johannesburg. This south Indian beauty gave it her best shot and has definitely left her mark. Right from the moment she strutted down the ramp for Lecoanet Hemant during Delhi Fashion week I knew this woman was going places. She was ‘the’ showstopper on day one. Through her preparation for the Miss World pageant I feel like she might have lost some of her natural charm. The entire Indian population waited with baited breath until India was the last one to make it to the semi-finals. One she reached the top five I assumed India would win. But when the question posed to her left room for such a wide interpretation i think that’s where things went sour. Describe your journey……. that probably means your personal journey as an beautiful Indian woman in a male dominated society. Of course Parvathy chose to give the typical air headed third world country - Mahatma Gandhi speech. Although when Priyanka Chopra was crowned Miss World the question posed to her was who the person was living today she admired the most to which she promptly replied Mother Teresa. Of course in the year 2000 Mother Teresa was no more and I assumed India was out of the running. But Priyanka went on the win the coveted crown.

She is originally from Changanacherry - Kottayam, Kerala and now lives in Mumbai. Her hobbies include listening to music, dancing, glass painting, reading, playing basketball and badminton.

Pageant history

Miss World 2008

She represented India in the 58th Miss World Final which was held at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 13, 2008 and finished First Runner Up. Kseniya Sukhinovia from Russia won the crown, which according to many was unfair, citing that Parvathy deserved to win the crown.

Her reply to the question, "What does being in South Africa mean to you?" was that it was like home to her. She drew comparison to the fact the people of South Africa were extremely hospitable like Indians and also that both the nations have given such respected leaders like Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi who have influenced the lives of millions. She added that both the nations shared such a wonderful diverse culture that made them both similar.

She won 3rd place for the Miss World Top Model contest on December 3, 2008. She was one among the top 5 Finalists of Miss World 2008 Beach Beauty contest, where she was placed the first-runner up when Miss Russia became the eventual winner.

Miss India 2008

She participated in Femina Miss India 2008 and won the Miss India World crown. Parvathy also won sub-titles like Miss Photogenic, Miss Personality & Miss Beautiful Hair in the Femina Miss India 2008 pageant. She was one of the favourites to win Miss India title. During the question-and-answer rounds in the finals, she was asked, "The rate of divorce in India is on a rise. Is Western influence the cause of this or something else?" Parvathy gave the reply "Divorces are not a result of Western influence. At the end of the day, it is we who decide our worth. Marriage is not when one completes the other but is when both share their completeness."

Miss India South 2008

In a star-studded ceremony at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre held in December 2007, Parvathy Omanakuttan was crowned the first ever Pantaloons Femina Miss India South 2008. Winning the PFMIS 2008 contest got her direct entry in the top 10 finalists of the Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2008. She also won few more subtitles in PFMIS 2008. She was crowned as PFMIS 2008 by Ramya Krishnan, a famous South Indian actress.

Mallus of the world, rejoice! Parvathy Omanakkuttan, one of your kind has won the coveted title of Miss India World, the same crown once worn by Aishwarya Rai, before she went on to become Miss World.

At a function in Mumbai, Parvathy Omanakkuttan, a Malayali girl hailing from Kerala's Kottayam district was crowned the queen of Miss India World contest. She's just 20. Not surprising, we've been doing well at everything 20-20 these days. However, when its comes to her vital stats, she's a smashing 32-27-36. Now, dear fellow Malayalis, lets raise a toast to that. Omanakkuttan stands 5' 8.5" tall. That's enough to give a complex to many of my fellow Mallus I guess.

Her selection at the Pantaloon Femina Miss India contest means Parvathy Omanakkuttan becomes eligible to compete for the Miss World 2008 contest, to be held later this year.

The author of this article humbly informs readers that he belongs to the SAME district as the Awesome Omanakkuttan. For your kind viewing pleasure, kindly turn your eyes to the photos, images and pictures of Parvathy Omanakkuttan alongside this article.

Parvathy Omanakkuttan's professed hobbies - real or not - include listening to music, dancing, glass painting, reading, playing basketball and badminton. Whatever.

Before she was selected to be among the candidates for the Miss India World contest, Parvathy Omanakkuttan had won her entry to the short list at a contest at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

A couple of years back, she won the prize of Navy Queen 2006 by the Southern Navel ..oops Naval Command. Nothing surprising!

One of the questions posed to her & the others during the contest was: “The rate of divorce in India is on a rise. What is the cause? Is western influence the cause or something else?”

And what did our damsel say?

"Divorces are not a result of western influence. At the end of the day, it is we who decide whose (sic) worth us. Marriage is not when one completes the other but is when both share their completeness."

We are speechless with admiration at the mind-blowing answer. However, we would add with dry throats that the tremendous beauty and intelligence (rare combination!!) like you see in Parvathy Omanakkuttan, may perhaps also be the cause of increasing divorces in India. Well, we could be wrong, too.

Another question she faced with immense courage:

Rina Dhaka to Parvathy Omanakkuttan:

Q. What’s the nicest gift a woman can give a man?

A. The best gift a woman can ever give a man is the birth of a child with all her compassion and patience.

The answer has right away melted all the stony hearts at DWS editorial headquarters. She instantaneously became our omanakutti here.

Now, let's cheer Parvathy as she moves to the next world stage! The Miss World Contest!
